Adult Individuals

“I can’t ADULT today!”

The reason Thomas likes his job is because he gets to be a big kid: swinging a sledgehammer, operating a forklift, building a wood-frame house.

But when it came to being married and raising kids, he had to be an adult. Thomas would always do the best he could. But there would come a point when it was too much.

No wonder he felt anxious about being a parent – “I don’t know what I’m doing.”

When they needed help, he would get so angry – “Nobody helped me.”

His wife wanted his attention all the time, and he would think, “What about me?!”

Drugs became his way of forgetting all about those responsibilities.

When he started talking about his childhood, it started making sense. His parents had their own issues. They couldn’t always be there for him. He felt alone. So, as a kid, he had to take care of himself. He had to adult.

What is Individual Therapy?

It is hard to be an adult sometimes.

Individual therapy gives you the “space” to talk about those ongoing challenges: feeling depressed, avoiding conflict, being hot-headed, needing to be in control.

Escape the judgment of others and experience what it’s like to be seen, heard and understood. It will empower you to go deeper.

Bring to the surface the intricate connections to your upbringing: a lack of nurturing, a traumatic experience, a pattern of unhealthy interactions.

Recognize how these issues from the past manifest themselves in your current problems.

Armed with that insight, learn how to take care of yourself and enjoy the relationships in your life.
